I’m not sure why I have always anticipated the first daffodil bloom. As a youngster growing up in Sidney, BC, it seemed an eternity from summer to when the daffodils began to poke out of the ground. The appearance of the first hard green Daffodil stalks was a sign that summer would indeed return. Then upon the first bloom I was certain summer was but a few sleeps away. For me this was much more satisfying than Santa Claus.
Today is a beautiful day, just like yesterday. Sunny with a forecast high in the low twenties and this morning I spied my first Daffodil of the season right outside my own kitchen window. It’ll be summer in a few more days, I’m certain of it.
